How was the La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water discovered?
Legend has it that a chevalier, Bertrand du Guesclin, stopped at a spring in the town of La Roche-Posay , in the center of France, to quench his thirst. His horse, which suffered from eczema, plunged into the water and came out cured. This is the start of the beautiful story of a water unlike any other...
What makes La Roche-Posay Thermal Water so special?
La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water is naturally rich in Selenium, a powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties, which helps to soothe sensitive skin.
When was the La Roche-Posay Center of Thermal Dermatology opened?
Since its opening in 1905, the La Roche-Posay Center of Thermal Dermatology has welcomed over 450,000 patients for the management of skin disorders. Today, a team led by 8 dermatologists work at the center and welcome over 7,500 patients every year, 30% of which are children.
Who founded La Roche-Posay?
A French pharmacist, Mr. Rene Levayer, created the brand “La Roche-Posay Laboratoire Dermatologique” in 1975. He wanted to develop a line of skincare using the La Roche-Posay Thermal Water as a core ingredient.
Why do we refer to La Roche-Posay Thermal Water as “prebiotic” thermal water on some products?
The unique minerals found in the La Roche-Posay Thermal Water can be seen as prebiotics, meaning nutrients for bacteria.
Although most La Roche-Posay formulas contain the La Roche-Posay Thermal Water, select products in the Lipikar and Toleriane lines combine a high concentration of the La Roche-Posay Thermal Water with complementary skincare ingredients, developed specifically to help rebalance the skin microbiome.
Are all La Roche-Posay products non-comedogenic?
Most La Roche-Posay products are non-comedogenic. However, since cleansers are not normally a leave on product, non-comedogenic testing is not necessarily needed. All products that are non-comedogenic will have this noted on the product detail page of our e-commerce site.

Skin cancer continues to rise – it’s estimated that 1 in 5 Americans will be diagnosed with skin cancer. Thankfully, 90% of skin cancers are curable if detected in time. This is why in 2010, La Roche-Posay launched the Save our Skin Campaign to raise awareness on skin cancer. Since then, over 14,000 free skin cancer screenings have been performed by dermatologists in the US.
